New Chemical Storage Tanks Installation After assisting the Sanitary District of Michigan City in their purchase of two new chemical storage tanks to house their ferric chloride solution, Haas & Associates designed the plans necessary for building modifications involving doorways, ceiling, lighting, heating and ventilation facilities, stairways and equipment and piping to accommodate the installation of the two previously delivered chemical storage tanks as well as the piping and reinforced concrete work associated with the chemical tanks. Washington Park Zoo Washington Park Zoo was started in 1925, and the Observation Tower was built in the mid 1930’s. The Tower is one of the buildings in the Zoo that is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is made from a steel railroad tower faced with limestone; its roof is topped with a spherical ornament purported to be a compression chamber from the City’s first fire engine. This project included the repair and restoration of the interior and exterior of the Tower, trying to keep it as close as possible to the original design. It also included installing new security fencing; reconstruction and rehabilitation of path and access drives; construction of a new pathway; construction of limestone access drives; expanding the audio system; and construction of a new video system within the Washington Park Zoo property. (*Click on an image to view a larger picture) Rolling Prairie Leaking Underground Storage Tank Remediation, 2002 This project included the removal of a 500 gallon underground storage tank which was found to be leaking contaminants into the soil. Harrison Street / Hoyt Street Area Sidewalk Reconstruction, Michigan City, 1999 This project began with an assessment of the condition of existing sidewalks within a 36 city block residential area. Cost estimates and recommendations were made for various alternatives. The chosen project included the removal of 6,500 feet of deteriorated sidewalk and the construction of 8,520 feet of new sidewalk, as well as 15 handicap ramps and 300 feet of curb. PROJECT COST: $350,000 Millennium Business Park, Michigan City, 1999 This project involved all sitework planning for an 100 acre business park, including lot layout, road design, utility design, drainage design, a new intersection at Highway 35 (0.5 mile west of Highway 20), and a railroad crossing. PROJECT COST: $1,500,000 Michigan City Zoo Retaining Wall Repair, 1999 This project involved the removal and replacement of a failed retaining wall and walkway. The new modular concrete (Keystone) retaining wall includes a custom designed and fabricated decorative iron fence. PROJECT COST: $ 75,000 Town Administration Building Renovations, Beverly Shores, 1995 This project involved structural framing renovations in a wood joist on steel beam flooring system which had significant pest and water damage. PROJECT COST: $ 55,000 Washington Park 800 Dock Additions, Michigan City, 1994 This project involved the construction of a 450 foot long steel pile supported, pre-cast concrete deck on steel beam luxury dock including 54 boat slips (35' and 40'), with cable TV, telephone, electrical and water hookup for each slip.
